This is Shulamith, the first ever, American Curl Cat... owned by Grace and Joe Ruga, of California. She came to them as a stray in 1981, along with her sister who did not survive.
These photos of Shulamith were gathered from various places on the web. They appeared as images without copyrights, but I believe they all belong to Grace Ruga. Thus, I am giving her full credit for these photos of her first cat, even though I found them all over the web without her name in various Curl cat websites and in just images, I feel they were probably used without her consent. I will only use them with her name attached, as I do think they are hers!!
In 1981 a black long haired female stray cat appeared at Grace and Joe Ruga's home in Lakewood CA. Shulamith (as they named her) had a sister with her that did not survive (she was black and white I believe). Their ears curled backward away for their faces and were STIFF (from cartilage). This ear trait was the result of spontaneous mutation in the first two American Curls (the two strays).
Herra's Mother was a long haired, green eyed Normal eared cat I named Shadow... she had a plumed tail... and she was Gorgeous!! Herra's Father was a gray tabby striped male with white paws (mittens) and he/is was a very handsome fellow.
This is Herra, our black American Curl Cat girl (named after the Greek Goddess Hera, but I spell it with two "r's). She looks so much like the Original Shulamith!! It's as if she's a re-incarnate of the original American Curl Girl... Her body type, fur type, ears, and all are nearly a perfect match!!
Our Goddess, Herra, American Curl Cat Girl. We are Blessed to have this beautiful American Curl Girl!!
